Aiteas Cliff Lookout

Perched atop the dramatic coastline east of Metinaro, Aiteas Cliff Lookout offers one of the most breathtaking vistas in Timor-Leste. From the lookout, visitors are treated to sweeping, uninterrupted views of the deep blue Timor Sea and rugged cliffs that drop steeply to the ocean below. The site is particularly popular for its vibrant sunrises, when the early morning light bathes the landscape in golden hues—perfect for keen photographers and nature lovers alike.

Birdwatchers may spot a variety of coastal and seabird species soaring above the cliffs, while the peaceful surroundings provide a tranquil setting for quieter contemplation or a scenic picnic. To reach the viewpoint, a rough dirt path leads from the main road, so sturdy footwear is advised. There are no facilities on-site, so visitors should bring water, snacks, and ensure they take all rubbish with them. Exercise caution near the edge as there are no railings, and the ground can be uneven or slippery during the rainy season.
