What waking up here looks like

Open your eyes to the colour of the bay before the breeze picks up — that improbable pale jade that only happens at slack tide. The sand outside your door is a fine coral-white, soft enough to walk barefoot to the kitchen for coffee. About twenty metres out, the fringing reef breaks the chop and gives you the still, clear water where the parrotfish work all morning.

By mid-morning the sun has shifted; the loungers under the coconut palms hold their shade till one. There is no road noise here — just the small clink of a fisherman's outrigger setting off, and once a day, the very distant chug of the Atauro ferry crossing the strait. At sunset the bay turns gold and then violet, and the bar staff bring a small plate of grilled prawns down to the sand if you want to keep watching.

Tides & safety

Lifeguard: No lifeguard on duty — staff trained in basic rescue

Currents: Strong outgoing current at the headland tip on full-moon tides. Swim within the bay.

Jellyfish: Occasional sightings November to January — never serious, but worth a glance before you swim.

Children should always swim with an adult — the reef edge drops off quickly.

Sunsets & sunrises

North-facing — full sunset over the Wetar Strait

Golden hour at this latitude is short and intense — about thirty minutes from the first deep colour to true dark. The very last light hits the headland to the west, so most guests grab a drink and walk a hundred metres up the sand for the postcard angle. Sunrise on the eastern side of the bay is quieter — the fishermen are already out by then.

Where it is

On the bay road, 1.2 km past the village turn-off.

What guests say about the view

Be the first to leave a review of this beach.
Sara, Singapore · March 2026
“I have stayed on a lot of beaches and this is the colour I will dream about. The sand is so fine you do not need shoes for the path to the room. We did the snorkel rental on day two and saw four kinds of parrotfish before breakfast.”
Pedro & Inês, Porto · January 2026
“Asked for an Ocean Suite specifically and it was worth every dollar — the balcony faces the strait, the sunset is straight in front of you, and you can hear the reef from the bed.”
Aiko, Osaka · November 2025
“Took the boat to Jaco Island on the second morning. The water there is somehow even clearer than the bay itself. The kitchen packed us cold drinks and a Tetum-style rice parcel for lunch.”
