Venture into the crystal-clear waters along Timor-Leste's breathtaking north coast. This immersive multi-day whale-watching swim expedition is based in Baucau, in the heart of the Wetar Strait — a region renowned for its rich marine biodiversity, with up to 26 different species of whales and dolphins, including spinner dolphins, melon-headed whales, pilot whales, sperm whales and the mighty pygmy blue whale (September–December). You may also encounter manta rays, whale sharks, sea turtles and many other forms of marine megafauna.
Each day begins early, setting out from the beach just 400 metres from your locally run homestay, with a small group of like-minded explorers (max 5 guests). When conditions allow and it is safe, you will have the opportunity to gently enter the water and observe these magnificent animals from a respectful distance. One day is reserved for exploring local villages, Timorese culture and stunning waterfalls surrounded by tropical rainforest.
USD 385 per person per day (5 days) plus USD 100 for the Dili–Baucau transfer. Expert local guides share insights into the habits, behaviours and conservation of these majestic creatures; all snorkelling gear is provided and safety is the top priority throughout. Where practical, guides photograph encounters and provide you with the media.
