Multi-day whale encounter based in Baucau, in the Wetar Strait on Timor-Leste’s north coast. Small groups (max 5 guests) with experienced guides and spotters who actively search for whales each day.

No guarantees can be made regarding whale sightings or interactions, as these depend entirely on natural conditions beyond our control. Weather, ocean conditions and whale behaviour may affect daily activities. No refunds, partial or full, will be issued if whales are not sighted or if in-water interactions are not possible. Participation in swimming activities is subject to guide approval, safety conditions and individual ability.

The expedition leader retains full authority to modify daily plans, routes or activities based on safety, weather or environmental considerations. These changes do not constitute grounds for refund.

By confirming a booking, participants acknowledge the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters; the payment, cancellation and refund terms; their responsibility to meet health, fitness and insurance requirements; that the expedition operates in a remote location where access to emergency services, medical facilities and evacuation support may be limited or delayed; and that participation is undertaken entirely at the client’s own risk.

Cost per person: USD 385 per day, plus USD 100 for the Dili–Baucau transfer.

A 40% deposit is required to secure your booking. The remaining 60% balance must be paid no later than 60 days prior to the expedition start date. Bookings made within 30 days of the expedition require 100% full payment at the time of booking. Failure to complete payment by the due date may result in cancellation of your reservation without refund of the deposit.

Cancellations must be submitted in writing: more than 60 days before departure — deposit may be transferable at operator discretion (not guaranteed); 30–60 days before departure — 50% of total trip cost will be charged; within 30 days of departure — 100% cancellation fee applies (no refund).

No refunds will be issued for failure to arrive (no-show), or for missing any part or day of the expedition, regardless of reason (including personal choice, illness, travel delays or other circumstances).

Participants must disclose all current and pre-existing medical conditions at the time of booking, and confirm their swimming ability and comfort in open-water environments. The operator reserves the right to restrict or deny participation in water activities if safety concerns arise. No refunds will be provided if participation is limited due to undisclosed or misrepresented health or fitness conditions.

We follow best-practice protocols for wildlife interaction, ensuring the wellbeing of both participants and the animals. Swim sessions happen only when conditions allow and it is safe, observing these magnificent animals from a respectful distance. Where practical, our guides photograph encounters and provide you with the media. Depending on the season you may encounter spinner dolphins, melon-headed whales, pilot whales, sperm whales and the mighty pygmy blue whale, as well as manta rays, whale sharks and other marine megafauna.
