Praia de Adara

Tucked beneath rugged volcanic sea cliffs on Atauro’s remote western coast, Adara is a tranquil, palm-fringed sanctuary. Here, traditional fishing huts sit on white coral gravel, and the reef wall begins just 30 meters from the shoreline. At dusk, the entire bay is illuminated in dazzling amber and magenta hues.

Adara gained international fame through the documentary 'Wawata Topu' (Women of the Sea), chronicling the unique multi-generational tradition of local women who freedive into the open sea to harvest fish, octopus, and sea urchins to support their households.
